Big Handed shooter. I mean BIG - Page 2

I'm a pretty big guy and I shoot a S&W 28 and SIG 226.

I've never held one but I would imagine the Coonan Arms .357 Mag. auto with it's long cartridge length would also make it easier to hold for a guy with big hands... not cheap though.

The 226 may be too small for his finger but I don't think he will have any issues with any of the large frame S&W revolvers.

I'm only a couple of inches shorter and a few pounds lighter than your friend. I have the exact same problems - my hands are XXL+.

For the most part, anything that isn't full size+ won't be comfortable, but can still be shot for shiats and giggles. That includes most revolvers regardless of manufacturer. FWIW, I've shot most of everything avail in 9mm and .45: Glock, Sig, Beretta, CZ, Ruger, S&W, etc, etc.

I own/shoot a 92FS, Sig P220 Stainless Elite, and a CZ SP-01; love them all. All fit pretty darn well, but for some reason the SP-01 seems marginally the best so far. I'd imagine the CZ97 might be even better (if only I could find somewhere that rents them).

Overall, I'd recommend CZ - although not hugely available, might be worth the search for a 9mm variant or a 97.

The FNP-45 has a pretty substantial grip girth.

Any double stack metal Sig with a Hogue wraparound grip requires a hefty set of paws.

Just to finish out my part of the thread, he ended up with a S&W Sigma in .40 cal. Loves it for the most part and doesn't shoot too bad with it.

Looks like a Noisy Cricket in his paws, but he says it feels right.

Go figure...

Well heck, glad he found something. I was going to suggest a m&p 45 fs with the extended 14 rd mags and a large backstrap. Might be something to consider when he wants another one.

A lot of the "big pistols" being cited in the thread are perfectly comfortable for me to shoot one handed, and I'm 5'8" 165 lbs

I think a lot of people are simply citing what they personally feel are big. P226? 92FS? 1911? These are not really that big

I would suggest a large revolver, but if the Sigma works, he should use it

Have him check out a Ruger P90. They are big sized and although I don't have hands as big as his, it may be a good match. Plus, those pistols are 100% reliable and 45acp seems to always be in stock at the LGS! They won't break the bank on cost either as they can be found for $400 or less.

My hands are pretty large so I find that arched mainspring housings work best for me with 1911s. Sometimes, even more hand-filling grips help. But for your friend, I might suggest a Desert Eagle in .50 AE.

That is one gun made for people with extra large hands.

LAR Grizzly. A little hard to find but a nicely put together oversize 1911 avialable in a bunch of cals. From 45 acp to 50ae. More user firendly than the desert eagle.
