does this look like a good #1 buck pattern?
mossberg 12 ga 500 sawed off to 20 inches.
winchester 2 3/4" #1 buck 16 pellets unplated. shot at 10 yards. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v9...47/12%20gauge/ to me it looks kind of odd the center is blank. |

That would be acceptable to me for that gun and that load. Check out the Box of Truth website. They shot OOB and #1 at different distances and have some great photos of it. I think he used an 18 in. 870. They got slightly smaller patterns than you did but not enough to worry about. The #1 loads stayed tighter way out past where the OOB was throwing pellets completely off the target. I am a big fan of #1 buck shot for work out to 17 yards or so. I have been using it for a long time and it works very well. Federal has released their #1 buck 2 3/4 load with their Flite control wads and they are definitely the tightest out of any gun I have seen them shot in. It's just now hitting the shelves, find some if you can and you'll be good to go on your shotgun.

What are you planning to shoot at only 10 yards?

![]() ![]() Seems like a good pattern to me. If you're using the gun for HD/SD it would certainly be devastating... |

Looking at the pattern, it's kind of neat that it has a three/two pellet pattern.
IMO, your pattern looks ok for ten yds. A good center mass shot would be devastating. As long as your HD situation/house arrangement does not require shots much further you should be alright. If you can foresee a further shot, I'd test shots further as O.C.(assuming the choke of the cut off bbl) tends to spread patterns very quickly. |

In other words, when you pattern your HD shotgun, you should pattern it at the distance of the furthest shot you would possibly make. |

I would not want to come down your hallway at 3 AM. The Flite control version is definitely an improvement but there's nothing wrong with standard wads for inside your house.
