Question about the remmington 1911-R1

I just recently purchased the R1 and have not had the chance to shoot it yet. I did disassemble it to clean it and when I was putting the slide stop back in it seemed like I had to put a lot of pressure to lock it back in place. Is that normal?...Thanx!!
