At the gun show today I saw...

Ammo I'm unfamiliar with

I saw .30 carbine tracer which isn't really strange but I also saw right next to it a box of .45 ACP tracer

I'm assuming that this was GI tommygun/greasegun ammo

Anybody have any? I'm curious about where it was made/when/ etc. Seller wouldn't let me fondle the carton

i think the 45 auto tracer was for signenaling, but it would be usefull in a auto grease or tommy gun.eastbank.

The military used .45 tracer for signalling, but the FBI must have used tons of it doing publicity movies at Quantico with their Thompsons. Those old films still show up on TV once in a while.

I was told a story long ago by a WW2 vet. (He has a reputation as a spinner of yarns) that a a 2nd Lt. in North Africa he would use his .45 full of tracers to direct MG fire to were it was needed. He told good stories but that is probably just what they were.

At certain points in the war certain soldiers were issued tracer ammo to do fire direction. Unfortunately they usually drew a lot of fire...

Wow, I bet it did! Range-wise, subgun or pistol vs. machine gun...I wouldn't volunteer to direct fire with .45 ACP tracer

Irc mostly it was done with riflemen who were armed with a bolt action 1903A3.
