model 37 ?

what is the finish on a model 37 air weight ? It is shiny and looks blued, but I was told you cannot blue aluminum.

Its an airweight frame. They were blued, but it was a different finish formula because of the airweight alloy frame is harder to blue. The same is true for a Colt Cobra (airweight Detective Special). Its just about black. Its not esp durable either. If you look at it a certain way, the barrel and cylinder appear a different shade. This is because the cylinder and barrel are steel even in an airweight. There have been alloy cylinders, but these were found to be unsafe. I have no idea about the new scandium / titanium alloy stuff that they have now. My interests are with the vintage arms.

The aluminum finish is called anodizing. Anodizing is a totally different process than bluing. Aluminum can not be blued. As said, the steel barrel and cylinder are blued.
