9mm and .45 loads using TiteGroup

Hi:

I'm trying to work up some loads using TiteGroup, for 9mm and .45ACP.

In 9mm, I will be using 124gn cast lead round nose bullets (Frontier).

For the .45 I'm using 230gr cast lead round nose (also Frontier).

If it matters, primers will be CCI 500 and Federal 150 respectively.

Any suggestions welcome!

I use 3.5gr titegroup for 124/125gr cast 9mm loads. Accurate and very low recoiling, no problems with leading.

I've used it in 45 too for 230gr LRN but I don't really recall the exact load or what I thought about it.

In my experience--Titegroup and cast bullets do not like each other---powder is much too hot!!!

I'll second that. I tried Titegroup with lead bullets and had a horribly leaded bore. With plated or jacketed bullets, no problems.

I have used several powders for lead 9mm and 45ACP loads and found W231/HP-38/Red Dot/Promo to produce accurate target loads that won't lead the barrels. There are other powders that will work but here are the load data I used for 125 gr RN 9mm and 230 gr RN 45ACP lead bullets:

Most highly recommend some other powders; Silhouette for 9x19, W231 for 45 ACP.

These both work well with cast, plated, and jacketed.

Titegroup will work fine in 45ACP for light loads with lead bullets, but bullet hardness and sizing is important to prevent leading. Using too hard and/or undersize bullets WILL lead, even with light loads. Many have found that a soft, 10-12brinnell, 200gr. LSWC and from 3.9-4.5gr. of Titegroup is a fine target load.

Never had much success using it in 9mm though, as I just could never get my powder measure to throw very small charges as consistantly as I wanted. It wasn't the powder's problem though.

9 mm I am using 3.6 grains Titegroup and life is very good.
45 acp I am using 4.0 grains Titegroup and life is also very good minimal recoil and accuracy for both loads is very good.

Thanks very much for the pointers.

At this stage I have 1,000 lead bullets in 9mm and another 500 in .45, along with 2lbs of TiteGroup powder.

Rather than wasting this, I think I will need to try making up a few rounds to see how they perform and whether leading is a significant issue in either barrel.

Given that, any further loading suggestions would always be welcome.
