Help to identify and find value Smith and Wesson
Smith and Wesson 38 cal. Pearl Handles, break in middle hammerless,
On top of Barrel is Smith and Wesson Springfield, Mass. USA Side of barrel is 38 8. W.CTG Serial number is 239XXX Picture enclosed, Please help me find value, my mother got it from her mother, would like to year made and value |

You have a .38 Safety Hammerless 5th Model, manufactured from 1907 to 1940 in the SN range 220000 to 261493. Note that the barrel marking is actually "38 S.& W. CTG" indicating the gun is chambered for the .38 S&W cartridge (different from .38 S&W Special). Condition is important in valuing these older guns. Yours looks to be in reasonably good shape from the photo, so I'd say somewhere around $350 to $400 or so.
