Winc 1897 Issue
Picked up a nice E model (takedown) a few weeks ago. Worked fine, after I put in a full strength mainspring.
But now, it seems that the slide goes too far forward, and the slide then disconnects from the carrier. Carrier can then drop down, get jammed, etc. Nothing seems broken. ![]() Attached is a pic of the little plate on the mag tube (rotated for clarity). My handle will slide up and over this, allowing the slide to disconnect. Question: is this plate designed to stop the slide, or not?? The brazed ring and the spiral spring on the mag tube seem to be OK. And I am sure I am installing the mag tube all the way into the rcvr.

I don't know about W-97s; but, from your pic, it seems the tube has shifted position in the clamp.

Problem Solved
The slide stop band, that is normally welded on the mag tube, had broken free.
Did a quick silver solder job on it, and we are back in business. Ask me next year how well the repair stood up to use!
