Well, they sell those brand new for nearly $800 at Sportsman's Warehouse here in town. It's a beautiful and well made gun and if you got one for $200 you got a HUGE steal.

That's a great deal on a beautiful pistol! I have a Beretta 84BB (the double-stack version of your 85), and I was satisfied to get it for $400.

The Beretta Forum is a great place for info on the line.

I have a model 84f in nickle. It's a great gun, very reliable and accurate. It's my favorite .380.

Dates of manufacture are stamped, in code, on the frame.

Was it a true statement about only producing them in 1990 for 1 year?

Beretta 85F

I have a Beretta 84F, a Beretta 85F and a Browning BDA .380. Although not deep concealment handguns, they are all reliable as farm anvils.

The 85s [more so than the 84s in my opinion] are fun, ergonomic, reliable, beautiful, well made little handguns. Not ideal for concealed carry, but otherwise very versatile. If you got one for $200 consider yourself very fortunate and enjoy it well.

No; the "F"-series Cheetahs were built from approximately 1988 until 1998.

The key word is "approximately". Based on owners' research of serial number ranges, Beretta seems to frequently produce new models concurrently with the models they were intended to replace, sometimes for up to 2 years. Unfortunately, AFAIK there is no truly comprehensive and detailed reference book about modern Beretta pistols other than the 951/92/M9 series, so there's little information to go by other than what you'll find on the Beretta forum.
