Before it was discontinued it was my favorite in the .22 Hornet. I suspect it's way too fast for practicle .308 loads.
Where did you find the powder? I haven't seen it around for a dozen years. If you are breaking down LC 7.62X39 for the powder, you'd be way ahead to sell the ammo.

748,

I THINK you're thinking of W-W 680, which was close to W-W 296 in burning rate, and which has been discontinued for years.

From what I understand, WC 680 is far slower burning and is not suitable for use in the same cartridges as W-W 680.

Mike,
You are correct , I was thinking of WW680.
Did a Google search to satisfy my curiosity and found a lot of info ( some of it contradictory) on WC680. The concensus seems to be it's in the same class as AA 1680 or 4198, both excellent in the Hornet and 7.62X39. There is data on AR15.com for the 7.62X39, there might be something there for .308 if you want to look around. The GD section there tends to get a little out of hand , but the tech info is very good.
Good luck and keep us informed.
