Remington 1100 history

I have this used Remington 1100 and I'm wondering if it's possible for me to track down the exact year it was manufactured. The serial number ends in X and its a 20 gauge STANDART WT. Some history of the 1100's I found at the RSA website in an article by Jack Heath leads me to believe it is pre-1977. My initial inquiries about this shotgun are posted on an earlier thread (post 3428504). Thanks for any help. Kevin

Remington Year of Manufacture Codes maybe found on the barrel of your shotgun, on the left side just forward of the receiver.
The first letter of the Code is the month of manufacture, followed by one or two letters which are the year of manufacture.
The code will be valid for the manufacture of the barrel; maybe for the receiver - as barrels do get switched around.

Although the Model 1100 was first introduced in 1963 as a 12ga, the 20ga wasn't introduced until 1969.

Month Codes: [first letter]
B - L - A - C - K - P - O - W - D - E - R - X
1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9 - 10 - 11 - 12

Year:______Code: [second (and third*) letters]
1963_______ K
1964_______ L
1965_______ M
1966_______ N
1967_______ P
1968_______ R
1969_______ S

1970_______ T
1971_______ U
1972_______ W

As you can see, the years/letter codes start to duplicate, so it's best to already know the approximate era the gun in question is from.

Thanks, I'll see if I can date it tonight using this info. I suspect if the barrel shows a date between 1969 and 1976 it's probably the original barrel.
