.44 Walker maximum charge

I seem to remember reading that 60 grains of BP or Pyrodex is the max load for a Walker. After reading the post on .44 Remington, and a compressed load of 40 grains, my question is, is a 60 grain load in a Walker a compressed load? Would it be better to drop back to 40 grains for target shooting?

IME, yes and yes; although, 45 is a good load as well..

Tripple 7 shooters--- 3f 25 grains for target shooting works just
fine in the Colt Walker. My experience.

I would not go putting 60grs of 777 into a Walker unless you want to ruin it. I know of one Walker that sent the barrel assembly down range with a full load of 777. The gun came apart at the wedge cutout. It looked like a pepperbox when the smoke cleared. I ruined two wedges on my Walkers by shooting just 50grs of FFFg goex in my two. Now I shoot 44grs of FFg Goex and all is plenty well.

In that case, is 44 grains a heavy enough load for close range work on wild hogs? I'm in SW Georgia, and bought the Walker as a backup on wounded hogs. BTW, I will most likely be using either Pyrodex or Black Powder.

I use 40-45 grains of FFg Goex in my Walker with good results.
