Gun display case information.
Hey guys, I am considering a business building and selling gun display cases. I have been searching for information as to how popular they are at this time. I know many people are buying large gun vaults, but what about gun display cases? What kind of set up would you like if you were to buy one for your collection? If you guys can give me your opinions or advise that would be great. Thanks for stopping by and taking a look.

I'll give you my thoughts.
I would be looking for something "different" than a flat wooden box with a glass cover on it like you see used for gun show displays. If I am going to display certain guns in my home, the last thing i want it to look like is a flea market or gun show. I would be looking for something high quality and a little more artistic and sophisticated. If I knew exactly what I wanted, i suppose I'd commission someone to make it. Unfortunately, I'm not that creative, but I do know what I like when I see it. The display is really everything. For example, I've seen old mechanical calculators at flea markets and they look like junk. However, clean several of them up, place them in a lighted glass display made for showing off these old mechanical calculators with engraved exhibit plates, place it within a well designed Accountant's reception area, and you get the "WOW" factor - folks can't stop staring at them, and they think they are rare and priceless. Think about an old Colt SAA tossed in with some other revolvers in one of those "gun show" type displays - is that really going to impress anyone??? Yes, if you are going to display your guns, you want to do so in a manner that it enhances the gun....and your home. I would want that "WOW" factor. Why am I saying all of this? I'm constantly looking for really good displays - for guns and other things. I have an extremely hard time finding what I'm looking for. Yes, I'm frustrated - sorry if I went off on a rant. [good topic, but it probably needs to be moved to the General forum] |

People who are willing to pay for a really nice display case would want something that fits their tastes and home decor. If I were you I would make on really fine, unique, case and solicit business from that custom making the cases. If yours are good the orders will come in. I do some woodworking and have friends who do also. Two sell their work regularly. One is a very high end maker of furniture and interior design. He has never advertised and business keeps coming. The other makes fireplace mantles. His original business started going downhill and at the request of a friend he made a fireplace mantle. When it was finished he got another request and so it goes. Both stay busy. Quality and originality are the keys.

I would add that it needs to be secure. Perhaps safety glass (if a glass front) and a pickproof-style lock.
Another option could be disguised display cases where it looks like something else until it's opened up (table with a lift-off top to display underneath, bookcase with false back etc) |
