Info on S&W 44 special

I am a new user and would like some info about one of the firearms that my Dad left to me. It is a S&W 44 Special 4inch barrel S/N S 149XXX, N frame, hand ejector pre model24. Not target model. Would like to know approx. mfg date and ballpark value. Condition is near mint. Thanks

On S Prefix, S&W finished `1955 with serial number S139999, and finished 1956 with serial number S149999. Really need some indication of condition and/or pictures before any one can give you a valid estimate on value.
