Why in the world would you affix it to the barrel?
Did I see it incorrectly. |

Unless you absolutely can't remove/change your handguards, there are better ways.

You are absolutely right Ridge Runner 5. I wanted a bipod mount that was easy to attach and detach. I figured when a bipod was needed, I could attach it in the same manner as the bayonet. When not needed, the bipod and any related mount would not be on the rifle. You don't need a bipod for every shooting scenario so why keep it on the rifle all the time? Because I have a couple of AR15s, the one pictured (no forearm rail) and another with a forearm rail, I wanted a mount that allowed easy bipod attachment to either rifle.
Willie Lowman, I've got some weights for you. Mount with bipod: 1lb 5oz. Mount only: 7oz. The bipod is the Harris Ultralight model L. The body of the bipod mount is made of a glass-filled polymer, thank God, otherwise it would be entirely too heavy. RamItOne, why mounted to the barrel? Primarly for the ease of attachment/detachment reason noted above. Secondly, I'm more "old school" when it comes to slings and didn't want to remount the sling swivel. Thank you zoomie, I considered the mount you're referring to but I'm happy with this new one.
