H&R 22 Special

A friend has an H&R 22 Special, break top with a six in. bbl.
serial #5250xx,that does not lock up until it is cocked. Is this the normal operation for this?
Also, the cylinder will not advance unless you help it. Are there any parts available for these,or are they even worth fooling with?
It was his fathers, and he'd like to have it working for sentimental reasons.

Thanks

The gun should close and latch without being cocked, so some problem is there. Numrich has about 3 pages of parts for H&R .22 Special in either 7 shot or 9 shot versions. Click here, then click at the top to sort on the model number. The .22 Special comes up near the top.

unclenick,thanks for the reply.
It seems as most of the parts are sold out for the 7 shot version.
In searching for info,I did find out that until 1936,the cylinder was free wheeling.

The search continues!
