worth of a savage 99e a in .243 vs 99e F .243

i saw a post on trading site for a RARE 99e series a for $1000.00
did they make a 99e series a worth that much my guess is 600 at the most
i have read that the .243 is the second most valuable savage rifle beat out only be some thing like a 26-3000 (not sure of the round)
i think mine is a 99e F i found the f stamped under the model
i heard that the made all the 99es in a walnut stock
mine has a blond stock that i think is maple (it is stained in these pics)
it also has the safty on the lever
how do i check the date
is there a difference in price between the a and f

Your Savage 99 is a late model from the 1970s era, as shown by the stamped checkering. The "e" (lower case) designation in later 99s was for the economy model with birch stock, like yours. 243 was one of the most numerous produced, only 308 was more numerous in the later models. 358 Winchester would be a rare chambering, followed by 22-250 and 284 Winchester.

Prior to the late 1950s, 300 Savage was most numerous, followed by 250-3000, 30-30, 303 Savage, and 22 High Power. Before 1950-ish, the E designation was for straight grip/shotgun butt stocks with no checkering. The F designation was for pistol grip/shotgun butt stocks with checkering.

So, in answer to your question, the advertised rifle could easily be worth $1,000 depending on chambering, takedow or solid frame, checkering or plain stock, rifle butt or shotgun butt, engraving (if factory), and the kicker (as always) is condition. And of course, asking price is no indication of selling price.
