Hornady 140 grain SST loads for 270

Any one have any luck loading the Hornady 140grain SSTs in a 270. I have tried 55, 56 and 57 grains of H4831sc. The 55 shot the best and then it went down hill. If you have loaded this combo before any inputs would be appreciated.

I'd try RL-19.

If 55 grns of H4831sc & 140gr SST produced the group size you were looking for I would use it, I'll accept whatever combination produces best accuracy and stop there. My experience is best grouping usually occurs before you reach a maximum charge. William

Thanks

Yeah thats what im looking for. Just the best group doesn't matter much to me what the vel is. I also loaded some 54, 54.5 and another 6 55 grains to see how they group.

In had pretty good accuracy results about .5 MOA using 140 gr SST's I used 56 grains of Hogdon 4831 worked the best in my rifle.

I also find that i get the best accuracy results with loads in the middle of the minimum and maximum recommended charges i've found exceptions but they seem to be rare.

It all depends on what you're looking for personally i go for best accuracy but you may find that you want the most velocity with acceptable accuracy whatever that may be is up to the individual.

My rifle likes 56gr of H4831 with a 140gr SST. In fact it is one of my favorite loads. I haven't tryed the short cut yet but it is supposed to be interchangable.

You should try some H414/WW760 with your SST's. Start with around 50 grains in WW brass and work up to around 52.0. Standard primers, too.
