well the germans used the 8x57 for a long time, just as the americans used the 3006, and both worked. i could use either and would not think i was under gunned. eastbank.

Anything other than antelope and buffalo, so deer, boar, elk, sheep etc. Same stuff you'll use a 308 or 30-06 on.

If you use commercial US ammo, it is "low pressure" loaded for liability purposes. It will kill everything that a 30-30 will, black bear, deer, etc. Full power ammunition will do anything that a 30-06 will. I wouldn't worry carrying 8x57 in big bear country. That being said, plenty of elk have been killed with the 30-30 and 32 Special. Accuracy is more important than anything else in lethality. Jimro
