My Steyr AUG?
Hi
I am taking my AUG for a shooting soon with friends. I would like to know how accurate is it at 300-400 yards? I will post pics of my AUG tomorrow. Regards, Last edited by Firepower!; May 20, 2010 at 03:22 PM. |

Is it a Steyr A1 (integral 1.5-power scope with the circle reticle) or an A2 (you supply the scope) or an A3 (US-made, you supply the scope).
A few years back (pre-AW ban) I had an A1 AUG. I found it accurate (within reason. I never actually measured a group, but I'd call them "minute-of-human"),but seldom had a chance to shoot much beyond 100 yards. Steyr offered an optional (for more cash than I was willing to spend) reticle upgrade to fine crosshairs inside the coarse "donut". I think either that or a GOOD (no cheapies!) scope on an A2 or A3 would be signifcantly more accurate at the longer ranges. Of course, a lot will depend on the quality of ammo you use and range conditions.

The AUG I have is the carbine length A1. In the donut it does have a crosshairs.

I have the MSAR STG556 Aug copy and I would say 200 - 300 yards is max for my 1.5x scope.

Factory targets supplied with the early AUG-SAs, 900SAxxxx-range, invariably displayed five shots grouped inside 1-1/2" at 100 meters. The factory target had a big bull that fit exactly inside the donut at that range, which was zeroed at 300 meters, and a smaller bull at 12-o'clock coinciding with the higher point of impact at 100 meters, so it was easy to shoot accurately without crosshairs. A man's torso inside the donut at any range inside 600 meters would be hit.

Yeah I saw that about the L85? I had the same problem with a thread of mine. Did the same thing. Gave this place a break for a few months then I was back... I sincerely hope Firepower does the same. It was interesting to hear about gun ownership in another country. He always got the coolest toys!
What a shame.
