Triple 7

I have a Pietta 1851 Navy in .44 cal. I have been using Pyrodex and recently bought a jar of Hodgdon's Triple 7. How much should I use in grains? I was using about 22-25 grains of Pyrodex.

Duhhh…

Someone wasn't thinking this out. Instead of multiplying by 0.15 and then subtracting that from the original number, it's simpler to just multiply the first number by 0.85!

X - (0.15X) = 0.85X

In a brass frame 51 Navy a 18gr load of T7 would be about as much as I would consider. Depends on how long you want it to last.

That's true if you have a calculator or a piece of paper to multiply .85 X 25 grains with.
But to quickly multiply in one's head using easy binary calculations, first multiply it by 10% + 1/2 of that and you have the 15% to subtract from say 30 grains of BP. 10%(30) + .5(30) = 4.5 subtracted from 30 = 25.5 grains of 777.

Now just try to multiply .85 X 30 in your head.
If you can do it with any number then you're really able to use your head!
