arc of .223

hi there, i was omn the range today and sighted in My AR's iron sights at 100 yards dead on and just out of curiosity I shot at 200 and was high by 3-4 inches, is there any way that I can bring that trajecory a little flatter.... My rifle is a Stag Arms 16" barrel with a 1:9 twist, and the bullets I shoot are 55 grain Nosler ballistic tips movin about 3000 FPS, would switching to a heavier bullet and maybe pushing them a litle faster help???

The heavier bullets are going to travel SLOWER but are better in the wind. It is unlikely that if you are set to 100 yards you will be shooting high at 200 yards. You need to look to something different than the bullet to solve your issue.

The first thing that comes to me is are you shooting DOWN HILL???

If you are using the standard A1 or A2 iron sights, they are 3" above the bore line. Hitting dead on at 100 yds could well put you high at 200 yds.

Just a thought. You may want to try zeroing at 200 yards. That may put only 1" high at 100 yards. Might be easier to deal with than 3" high at 200.

I typed some numbers into a calculator: http://www.ipgeneral.com/~renegade/rifle/rifle1.shtml

Even if they were going 4500 fps, they shouldn't hit that high at 200 yards. That trajectory is as flat as a laser.

Yes sorry about the Run on there, it was typed on a phone. Actually I was at the range when I typed it. And as a side note the range is indeed downhill, but I have recently found a new range to test at and it goes to 250 yards exactly. So I will post a new report as soon as this darn wind stops blowin so hard......
