My shotgun pattern (pics) maverick 88 w/ .650 choke

I know this is not a turkey forum but i want to post a thread about my patterns lol.
I used #5 Winchester High velocity 3" loads 1 3/4 oz .Maverick 88 .My choke is a Wilson precision accu-comp .650 constriction.

I don't hunt Turkey ......but shooting # 5's ..... and if, as you say, that represents a 10" circle at 40 yards ......seems like its enough choke. Just looking at a reloading table quickly / # 5's in 1 3/4 oz ought to yield about 300 pellets.

Looks to me like you have about 25% in a 10" circle / and close to 90% in a 20" circle ......

I would say that's dense enough to kill a Turkey ( I seem to remember reading somewhere that Turkey hunters want at least a dozen pellets in a 5" circle at 40 yards / where the neck and head are going to be obviously ....) but I'll defer to " Turkey Hunters " ....

I've seen tighter chokes than that advertised ....for Turkey, etc ... so you could tighten it up a little if you think its necessary ...

actually .650 is really tight most avid turkey hunter s use something .660 or less.

how tight is the pattern at 20 yards. Cause on the contary to what some believe you can actaully miss what you are shooting at with a shotgun. I shot 3in #5s and at 20 yards they are great. Also 40 yrds is kinda pushing it IMO. then again 25-30 yards is a far distance where i hunt

Um 40 yards is the norm lol.I've talked to hundreds of hard core turkey hunters and 100% tell you to pattern @ 40 yards and draw a 10"circle around your density section .20 yards is like a slug .Starts to spread past that .

what oz load velocity etc /copper plated/ buffered ? both? choke ? gun?.
al play a part with this 2 oz of #5's is more than you need @ 40 yards

40 yards is the usual and you usualy aim for the center of a 30 in. circle

Dam where are you guys hunting, Im up here in MA and 20 yards is the norm and 30 is a reach. then again im hunting in the woods and not on the edge of fields

For most turkey hunters that is about right. I had my tactical shotgun worked like a turkey setup with threaded barrel for extended turkey choke and a cone job and you can't ever go wrong with that setup. I am the b*stard though with 2 roost's on his property. I could shoot a turkey every day of the week... Still like my butterball better though
