Anyone have experience with the Mossberg 590A1 "Tactical"?
I have a Benelli M1S90 for my house gun, but I'd like to get another shotgun for my office, as I don't want to beat up the Benelli.
I was looking at the Mossberg 590A1 Tactical. I like the idea of the collapsible stock, but my only experience with adjustable stocks on a shotgun was with a Spas 12 folder, and that one really hurt. Has anyone here had any experience with this model, or any of the Mossberg shotguns with the adjustable stocks? Thanks for any replies. |

Well, let's see.
You take a Mossberg shotgun, which every fan touts because of the superior placement of the safety and action release. Then you put a pistol grip stock on it, so the shooter can't reach either of those superior control locations without breaking the firing grip on the gun. OoooooKay... Fwiw, my 590/500s are all conventionally stocked. And yes, in fact I am an oldphart stuck-in-the-mud. But I don't have to grope my shotguns like a teeenager on a first date to get to the controls, either. lpl

I handled one at the last gun show I went to, but got a 930spx instead. I like the short length of the stock, but the safety is hard to operate with the pistol grip. Another option is a 590spx with the regular stock.

Yeah, I'm +1 with a normal stock on my 590A1. Even with the original pistol grip, you have to hunt for the mag release and kinda take your hand off the grip to reach the safety. I think the pistol grip is a nice idea- it probably would work a hell of a lot better on an 870.

It's a really "cool" looking gun. The gun itself is great. The stock is really cool looking but it's not so great for recoil. I have the same stock on my mossberg 500. The stock works fine for me as long as I'm not shooting 3" magnum shells. I pretty much just shoot birdshot so the recoil is fine. All in all the gun is great and won't disappoint at ALL. I would love to have that gun. Just don't have the money right now lol.

I would look into the Remington 870s there is alot of diff kinds. I really like the marine magnum 870s. The safety on those are on the trigger gaurd. I'm sure you can find one with the AR type stock or the speedfeed stock with the pistol grip.

The mossberg maverick 88 is also a great choice. I have one and I love it. It's just as nice as my mossberg 500. The price is great on them. Also the safety is on the trigger guard. You can get one brand new around 150ish. They have the 8 shot security model. That's what I have. It's my main home defence gun that I trust with my life.

That's a great gun to get. If I had to get rid of my 500 or my 88 I would get rid of the 500. I just really like it. It has the trigger safety like you want. I have never had a problem with it. I put the ATI stock on it and I think it looks great. The 8 shots and the 18.5" barrel are perfect for HD. All the parts and accesories that fit the 500 fit the 88. Everyone that I know loves the mav 88. The funny thing is some of my friends have sold their moss 500-590s for the mav 88 cause it's such a great gun and the price is so good. If you want anymore info on it just ask and I will let you know....I sound like a mav 88 salesman hahahaha lol.

I got mine on sale at the local gun shope for 160. I know some stores have them on sal. As low as 120 sometimes. But with no sale getting one online it's around 170-190. Around here used they go for 120ish. But I know a few people that paid 99 brandnew and some who paid 220.

They all will. The only thing that you can't change is the forend. You have to buy new bars with the forend. They bars for the forend go inside it. Other than that everything works.
