Armalite AR-10- is it a good choice?

I'm looking to purchase a semi auto rifle in .308. I have come across the Armalite AR-10 and would like some feedback from owners and users of the rifle concerning reliability, durability, Armalite's quality control, accuracy ect. I have already researched and received allot of feedback on other platforms, i.e. FAL and M-14 and ask that responses stay focused on the Armalite AR-10.

As always, I greatly appreciate all info that any of you can provide me.

Thank you again TFL members.

I would call it one of the best 308 platforms out there....Armalite was doing it long before many got into the game.

I've owned a few AR-10's in the past and they have been quality guns. Accuracy was excellent. I had very few problems with them. I have heard that Armalite does not recommend ammo under 150 grain, which sucks. I have also heard of people using it with no problems and others having problems. If you intend to use 147 grain ball ammo research this rumor. Having said all that, magazines tend to be expensive and the rifles are also pricey. DPMS tends to be considerably less expensive and good quality. Magazines are cheaper too.

Have you considered the Remington R-25 it is pretty much a AR-10.

I'm happy with my carbine-length AR-10 so far, but haven't really put it thru heavy duty yet. Got to love those 2nd Gen 25-round mags. I will attempt to take advantage of the Major scoring in IPSC rifle this year, and this is the tool for it. At least there will be entertainment...

Compared to my Stag and Bushmaster AR-15, the fit and finish are notably finer on the Armalite.

I looked at one the other day and it looks nice. It uses dpms magazines. Nice rifle with freefloat aluminum forearm. I held one next to an Armalite and I was surprised at how light it was compared to the AR-10. They both had the same barrel length but the AR-10 is easily 3/4 lbs heavier. The AR-10 frame looks more substantial than the remington/dpms. so if you do not want the weight the remington is the way to go.
