Saddle type mount for Winchester 1300?
I have a Winchester model 1300 turkey gun with the old Weaver 1" side mount and I would like to install a Red Dot scope on it this spring for my brother. Most of the Red Dots have 30mm rings so I'd have to remove my Weaver base and install one of the Millett/B-Square saddle type bases. Are any of these bases any good? I really hate to remove the Weaver - it is a rock solid mount. Thanks.

If you are refering to the saddle type or clamshell, you will find that they are just as solid as your sidemount and perhaps even better but won't fault either nor do I have a preference. The B-Square just looks to be more solid. I have used both and even though you are getting away from a barrell mount they work great. You also know you can buy a red-dot in a 1" tube.

Thanks for the response, I know Millett makes a 1" tube SP-1 Red Dot, I just thought the 30mm tube would have a slightly larger FoV. I was looking over the Aimpoint scopes but may settle for something else. I don't really want to remove my side mount. Thanks again.
I just saw how much the Aimpoints cost. I guess I will go with something else.
