Old Stevens breaks open with trigger

I am looking for information regarding an interesting old Stevens Arms & Tool Co. 12 gauge single shot shotgun from the early 1900's. There is no model number or serial number that I can find. I know the approximate year because of the way the company name is written out and the barrel is stamped with "Electrosteel". The best identifying feature is the way the barrel opens. In order to break the barrel you pull the trigger all the way back, no other levers/buttons or anything. Sorry no pics, it's at a local pawn shop. I would appreciate any and all information, have searched 2 days online with no luck.
As a side note ...... how would you check the chamber or unload a live shell w/o firing the weapon??
