The K frame Model 19 & Model 66 .357 barrels have a flat ground off the bottom of the barrel so that the cylinder can be closed over the heavier barrel.
You're absolutely correct.

Absolutely right gearchecker.

As I've said, I've got numerous examples of both the 66 and 686. I've not busted a forcing cone yet on a K-frame. The K-frame 66 just handles and carries so much better....for me.

One side note. I'm always amused when I read how the L-frame magnums "replaced" the allegedly "weak" K-frame magnums. A quick glance at the SCSW 3rd edition confirms that K-frame magnums were manufactured alongside the L-frames......for over twenty years !!! Regards 18DAI.

a good choice would be the S&W 66
Although a 357 mag, FBI , 38 special +P, loads are all you will need.

S&W 684 4" My Choice

I would say the S&W 686 4" is one of the best revolvers out there. Love to shoot at the range and I like to be able to use both .38 specials and .357 MAG. If you could only have one - it would be the 686 for me - however I also have the S&W 642, Glock 19 and Beretta 92FS Inox.

By the way - check out Hogue wood finger conversion grips (CocoBolo) for the S&W 686.
