6.5 x 55 bullet flight , rifle zeroed at 300 yds
I just got this M 96 Swedish Mauser and havent shot it yet. If course it comes with the front sight stamped 0 , i assume its the lowest .
I read these rifles are zeroed at 300 yds , how high usually do they hit at 100 yds and 200 yds assuming i use the commercial 140 gr WInchester ? |

Chow Chow,
Bullet weight and Ballistics Coefficient available here: http://www.sierrabullets.com/index.c...le&caliberID=6 A ballistics calculator is available here at the Hornady site: http://www.hornady.com/ballistics/ba...calculator.php Knowing your BC and bullet weight and approximate bullet velocity (which can be obtained from Hornady's or Sierra's site), you'll be able to obtain the bullet drop for a given distance. I have used the successfully to get the bullet "on paper", but further zeroing in is needed. Good luck. |

I read in forums these guns shoot like 8 inches to 10 inches (POI) high at 100 yds from POA . I was trying to confirm here if they really do shoot that high? The reason most of them advise to install a taller front sight post. But since I dont want to mess with it, i guess ill have to learn how to aim low at 6 o clock.

Why don't you want to mess with it? It's a simple drift job. You can always put the original back it. |

I've never needed one, just a little brass drift pin.Of course now I have to wear glasses to do it, to keep it on that edge, otherwise its just a blur. |

I found out the Federal Hi SHok 6.5 x 55 goes at 2650 ft /sec much better than the Winchester , Hornady and Wolf brands. I might just go for this to sight my M 96.

Try JBM Ballistics web site !!!!!
oldSneaky Pete here: I use the JBM Ballistics calculator for all my Trajectories. He has a "Bullet Library" where you can choose whatever projectile you choose and load in the velocity( the 6.5-139gr FMJ vel.is 2580+/-FPS) and then all the other variables and it prints out the results desired. I feel that it is the best trajectory calculator on the web. THANX--SNEAKY
