1st Buck with a bow!
I know it isn't much as far a 7 point might go, but being that it is my first buck with a bow, it might as well be a 20 point. Looks can be deceiving, 180 lbs. field dressed and as Uncle Ted says! Sweet back-straps tonight!

Congrats. It's exciting at that distance. You had to do a lot of things right to get some meat that way.

Looks like a good-eating, tasty buck to me---I go for the younger ones on purpose because you can't eat the antlers, and the young ones are always much better tasting. So, it looks like you've gotten yourself a GOOD one! Congrats on your first bow kill---that's awesome!

Congrats!
So far I've been skunked this season......glad to see someone's enticing them into bow range. They seem to want to hang out 60 yds from me and laugh .

I'm not hunting yet this year because my dang old state only allows ONE DEER, not one per hunt as in a Bow, then one with Rifle then one with BP..
My last couple states I lived in you could take a dozen deer a year..That is a FANTASTIC shot placement! Very nice for your first with a Bow! What are you shooting? I use a Bear Longbow, and sometimes a Recurve. |

Congratulations!
That is a Georgia-sized rack, ie, small, I have killed dozens of Ga. bucks with little racks like that. But the deer is big! Very unusual to get a Georgia buck to field dress at 180. Keep up the good work! |

Congratulations on the kill! There surely isn't anything like a real bow kill. Can you share the particulars? Bow, arrow, tip etc. (distance)? thanks,

Details as requested
Shot him at 25 yds. quartering away from me. Used a Magnus Snuffer SS, 100 gr. on a Carbon Express Maxima Hunter shaft. I was watching a pair of bucks about 250 yds on the other side of a soy bean field (5:30 PM) and out of the corner of my eye I saw movement. I had about 10 seconds to turn aim, I had one good fire lane and when he hit that I fired. Waited about 40 minutes before getting down from my ladder stand, found my arrow right off and it had good blood on it. I knew I had hit him right off because I heard that wonderful "thunk". Not a lot of blood, quartering away I only hit one lung and a little too high. He ended up laying down about 50 yds from where I shot him, and then went another 20 or so and was cemetary dead. Thanks for all the congrats guys. I usually take a doe first, but not even seeing a buck for 3 years I just had to take him down. I'm pleased though, like someone said, "you can't eat horns". I had some burgers today and they were great!

Great job. Its not always the size that matters, but how you took it. You have done something that many people have never done, me included. Never used a bow in my life, but I will shoot the fire out of muzzle loaders and rifles. I wished I was skilled enough to take them with a bow. Generally its too hot during bow season and thats another reason why I have never took up bow hunting.

Congrats on the your first bow kill and making it a nice buck!
In my book, any deer taken is a prize and you'll remember that buck for the rest of your life.
