High rib for 870?
Searched around, and couldnt find anything on this topic. I have an 870 express that i use for trap only. I love the gun, fits me perfect, however I would like the rib to be a little higher. Does Remington offer any replacement barrels for the 870 with a higher rib? Or even just one that could snap/bolt on to the existing one and add a little height? Im not looking for anything huge, just a little higher like the 2 bbl browning below.

Remington makes a trap barrel, but I haven't seen one with a rib that high.
This thread http://www.trapshooters.com/cfpages/...05&Messages=69 contains pics and contact info for a man who is making Delrin add-on ribs for $130-$150. ![]() John |

yeah that's pretty much exactly what im looking for! Price isnt too bad either, thats about what I expected to pay. Does it clamp onto the existing rib so it can be taken off, or do I need to send in my barrel and have them attach it permanently?

IIRC most of the aftermarket ribs were glued on with black epoxy.

Maybe get a spare barrel, have it made like that, so you can use your gun for other purposes as well

Oneounce has the best idea. Yes, a little more expesnive but much, much better. I don't shoot much trap but a guy at my club has an 870 he has worked over for Trap. It has a "high-ish" rib. I will see if I can get a picture. If I track him down it won't be right away.

Have you looked into an older factory Wingmaster trap barrel? My pre-1987, monte carlo stocked, 1100-Trap gun's barrel is factory overbored and has a stepped rib (look closely at johnbt's pic, and you can see the joint between the factory step rib and the extension). I suspect the Wingmaster trap models had a similar set up. Tommyb, you report that your Express fits you perfectly, raising the rib will change things.

yeah, it fits me pretty well...i just have to lower my head to the side a bit and i think a higher rib would be perfect.
