More info on stevens 38 special rifle
]I'm trying to find some info on a J. Stevens A & T 38 special rifle. THe markings on one side has "38 special 25 25" and the bottom of the lever plate has 7333.

I think you need a chamber cast. The rifle left the factory chambered in 25-25 Stevens. Somewhere along the line, either to rescue a shot out barrel or to be able to shoot a old gun that was chambered in a long obsolete caliber, someone reworked it to 38 Special. Since the 38 Special was developed and first saw use in 1902, it may have even been done when the rifle was new, but I doubt it.

[someone reworked it to 38 Special.] +1 The barrel marking looks like it's been added. Please do us all, and yourself, a favor - and do not shoot any +P or high-performance loads through that fine old rifle. If it were mine, it would only see lead bullets loads, gently. . |

Yep, lead bullets, standard velocities, ONLY.
In fact, I'd be inclined to shoot Trail Boss through it.

Interesting, it has the Scheutzen butt with the simplest of barrel sights. If it showed promise with standard velocity lead .38s, I would look into tang and globe sights.
