Shell through the trigger guard?
What's with the shotgun shell through the trigger guard on a lot of handgun pictures?
Is that just a handy way to pose it for the picture?

Yup. Holds the gun at an angle for the camera, since photos of guns that aren't propped up generally have too many shadows.
Why a shotgun shell instead of something else, I dunno. I guess everyone has one around, and they're about the right size. pax |

Hmmm...I was wondering if I lacked knowledge about a safety rule:
"Stargazer, rule #5, everybody knows you don't leave a handgun laying around without a shotgun shell through the trigger guard! It's not safe!" Quote:

"You have to find a pistol which has a barrel that fits in the trigger guard!"
OK, that's funny right there...

Drat, that's going to limit my choices when I pick a handgun. Maybe a Browning Buck Mark or Ruger Mark III. I've been saving up for a High Point for 10 years, and I know they don't make one that fits so that's out.

A .50 BMG round is an approved alternate for long guns.

Use small pieces of rubber hose behind it if you want to prop it up.
