short barrel Mossberg
Hello all, I've got an old Mossberg pump that was given to me by my father-in-law, the barrel as well as the but stock have been cut down. Can you tell me the legal length from the receiver to the end of the barrel??? Also, is that how you measure, for the front end of the receiver??? Thanks loads, just thinking this might make a good home defense gun. Later, Chuck

Local LEO's in my area tend to measure inside the barrel. With the action closed, slide a tape measure down the barrel. Don't know if that's the "official" way or not. If it reads under 18", it's a no-no under the federal law. The total length of the weapon also has to be at least 26" according to the feds.
Check your state and local laws... they may be more restrictive.

Yes ^.
Measure from the bolt face to the end of the barrel. 18" barrel minimum and 26" OAL minimum.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. Guess I'm legal on all counts. That'll make me sleep better at night.
