Mini 14 advice

I am looking at purchasing my first Mini 14. I have found a NRA used that has not been fired with a cheap case for 650 plus tax out the door (703). I can also get a regular Ranch from my sons Walmart. He get a 10% discount for 540 plus tax (600). What would be the better investment or best for knocking around hunting and range shooting, just all around gun
