Enfield rifle with sloppy trigger?

Enfield No.4 MK1 with trigger that rattles

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I just purchased an Enfield No.4 Mk1 manufactured in '43 of Gun Broker, giving me a chance to dust off my C&R. This is my second Enfield and unlike my other, it has a rather nice stock and will be kept original (my other has to wear an Advanced Technology stock as the original was severely cracked and scarred).

I'm absolutely thrilled with this specimen, heck... the bore is nearly mirror bright with sharp rifling. However, I noticed something that caught my attention: The trigger always has free front-to-rear movement, about 1/2" and it indeed makes a jingling noise when doing so. It in no way affects the function and dryfires fine, but it's quite annoying and does this regardless if the rifle is cocked or not.
My other Enfield has a sloppy trigger as well, but with about half the movement and absolutely none if cocked.

Is there some remedy to address this issue?

Thanks!

There is a hump on the back of the trigger, up inside the stock.
This controls first pressure by bearing on the V mainspring.
It was quite popular to grind down this hump to improve trigger pull, but if it was overdone then the trigger had no spring tension under first pressure.
Take a look fo grind marks &if needed either replace the trigger (not too expensive) or re-build the hump with weld & re-shape to work properly.
