Plinking w shotguns? Simple, birdshot, the value packs from Wally World, or where ever you can find some good, inexpensive shotgun shells. Slugs and Buckshot? Don't know all the slugs and buckshot I've seen took a jump. Haven't seen any of those 15-rd packs at WM lately. . .just the regular 5-box. Have a good sporting goods/gun shop that can give a hand?

Cheapest around here are the wally world 15 packs of remington 00 and sluggers. Walmarts here are still carrying the 15 packs at least. They have gone up in price over the last year or so though (like everything else)

When folks ask about the cheapest ammo, my typical response is to ask them if they reload. If they reload, then I suggest that they cast* their own bullets/slugs. If that seems a little extreme, then consider training with the cheapest bird loads you can find that duplicate the weight and velocity of the slugs you'll eventually be using. You're right, the recoil will be nearly identical.

*I can load .38's with home cast for less than the cost of .22LR's, but that belongs to another forum.

RIGHT NOW!!!! During hunting season is when to stock up on the 15 round buckshot and slugs for just under 9 bucks. They also have the high brass game loads of various bird shot at my walmart in 15 round boxes. For cheap shooting the 100 round bricks are cheapest.
For fun load for your buddy and have him load for you mixing the slug or 00 mixed with light loads... Always good for a giggle while also teaching to avoid flinch factor! Heck toss in a 3 inch turkey load for maximum affect 3 inch buck and slug in 15 round box is $2.50 more or less than 2 3/4.

I was at the local k-mart a few weeks ago and picked up 27 (bought everything they had in 12 gauge) boxes of 6 & 8 shot game loads for $3.69 a box on sale!!!

When was the last time you guys saw a box of game loads that cheap?

That adds up to $15.71 per 100!

Edit: The closest I found to that anywhere within 100 miles of me was $4.69 a box.....

J.R., that is a great price! I will see if it is on sale here! The 100 brick of light loads is 22 or more per 100!

ditto on cheapest to plink with being birdshot. cheapest so far was dicks sporting goods with less than $4.00 a box. a few of the local private shops have it for 6.00 to 8.00 for 1 oz. low brass #6-#8.

As ammo prices continue to soar, perhaps we may see slugs sold individually. And, for the holidays they'll come gift boxed.
