Star BKM Failure to Extract (Long)

Requesting advice.

I am an admitted Star fan. I have Two BKMs and one BM (as well as a PD, not the subject of this post).

The BM and one of the BKMs run flawlessly and are quite accurate and fun to shoot.

One of the BKMs, however, has a tendency to fail to extract about every 4th or 5th round (jam occurs when the next round tries to feed and stops against the empty shell, which is always about half-way extracted).

The malfunction is peculiar to the frame of the one BKM.

That is, the one BKM frame will demonstrate the problem no matter which combination of barrel/slide I use (they are all three perfectly interchangeable) and both of the other two will perform perfectly regardless of barrel/slide combination.

I had a similar problem with another BM I bought a couple of years ago and I took it to the local gunsmith who was unable to help. The seller refunded my $ (I shop there a lot). Because of the current problem, I called that seller just to see how she came out on the deal and, apparently, the smith still has the BM and still hasn't fixed it.

Any assistance on where to look (or where to tell the local smith to look) will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Will

Haven't replaced any of the three recoil springs and all perform identically in all 3 pistols: OK, OK, and FTE.

Same with all 3 magazines.

Thx.

Then I would be looking at the ejector, first.

Thanks, Bill.

I stripped down the BKMs and swapped out the ejectors.

Didn't help.

Of course that doesn't prove it's not the ejector, but...

I have to admit that today was the first time that I really took a good look at the three frames (2 BKM and 1 BM).

I was very surprised to find that the two BKM frames are far from identical!

The one on the left is the one that works fine, the other is the problem child.

You can easily see that the one on the right has rails and frame walls that are significantly thinner than the other. The BKM frame on the left and the BM frame (steel, not in the picture) look to be identical. I'm not at home and can't mike them, but the difference is obvious.

Could this be some kind of copy? It's difficult to believe someone would go to that kind of trouble.

Anyway, I'm giving up for the time being.

Thanks,

Will
