.45 Colt

I'm a rifle handloader, mostly loading .204 Ruger, 22-250, etc.....I'm going to start loading for my Smith & Wesson Model 25 in .45 Colt. I plan on using 200gr bullets, and would welcome advice on powders/loads. A friend who does a lot of .45acp recommended Accurate's Solo 1000, but I saw that Accurate doesn't list it as a choice for the .45 Colt. I'm considering Hodgdon's Titegroup or W231....but am still open at this point. Thanks. George

I started reloading a 45 Colt for a Taurus rifle just a few months ago. Unique was recommended to me, and in my experience it has proven to be accurate and a pleasure to use. I've been using 230 and 250 grain lead at around 900 fps. 45 Colt seems to be very easy to load.

I have used W231 alot. I have use several other powders for my .45 but keep going back to W231.

I really like W231 because it is consistant, not too dirty and makes mild loads very accurate from my Ruger Blackhawk .45 colt 7 1/2" bl, my '58 Remington .44cal. replica converted to .45 colt and from my Winchester '94 lever rifle .45colt. It is rather versitle for my situation, without any probs. I can load hot loads for my Ruger Blkhwk and Win' rifle that are also very accurate. It's my favorite!

Here is a link for some load date from Hodgdon:

http://data.hodgdon.com/main_menu.asp

After you clik "I agree", clik "cartridge loads". After your selections clik on "Get Data"!! A good bit of info here!

I have loaded 7 or 8 grains of Unique and a cast 200 gr swc for my Smith. It is an accurate load and not much recoil.
