The components we're concerned with are:
-Length of Pull, most importantly - an issue with kids, but typically NOT an issue with women. -Recoil - and specifically, felt recoil. So you make a good point - depending on whether they're recoil-tolerant or not, it is a bit of a myth, or at least a little more hyped than it should be. Just add weight if the caliber is a little hot. But, with kids who haven't yet hit the early-teen growth spurt yet, they flat-out cannot shoulder a full-length LOP rifle - they need an 11-13", not a 13-16" LOP. |

i recently purchased a .25-06 and put my WBY .300 Mag. in the gun case. the 06 does what i want to and is enjoyable to shoot. i'll keep the WBY in case i get a chance to hunt a grizzly or moose one day.

Your point is well taken.
I could never comprehend why a kid starts out with a .243 but graduates to a 30-06 when he is full grown. I have hunted with .243, 30-30, and .308 since I was a youngster and these cartridges still do the job for me. The animals are just as dead. Jack
