Truck Vaults??

Very glad to finally see a review of the Truck Vault in SWAT. I've been thinking about buying one for the longest time, but I could never find anything even remotely definitive about them.

Question, though:

I've heard that they are made ouf of a thick plastic and was curious as to how well they would stand up to jimmying with a prybar? I strong lock is nice, but if you can rip the plastic away from the bolt...

Anyhow, great issue and a timely review. Thanks all.

Vaughn-
I've had one since 2003 in my Land Cruiser. Dunno if they've changed materials, but mine is not burglar proof. That said, I doubt there's anything out there but steel construction that's gonna stand up to a pry bar; not to mention a portable drill on the lock.

Still, they have to break into the truck first.

I really like the TV for storage of all manner of stuff, including guns. Be aware, however, that you'll curse it from time to time: On a road trip, when you'd just as soon throw the rear seats down and sack out in the back of your truck; when you have need to haul something a bit oversized.

Thanks, Rich. I've seen similar units built from steel and aluminum for commercial operations, but I've not been able to get handson with either.

I lost several hundred dollars worth of tools when my truck was burgled, and couldn't imagine something similar occurring again when I stop on the way back from the range. I'll be making a call this week.
