finish
I Seen A S&w 686 That Some One Had Put A Black Finish On . The Finish Looked Really Good And I Have Thought About Putting A Finish Like That On My M-66. And I Was Wondering If It Would Hold Up Good . And About What It Would Cost .
Thanks |

Brownell's sells a product like cold bluing that is made to blacken SS. Haven't a clue how well it 'holds up' though. http://www.brownells.com/

Why Do You Capitolize Every Word In Your Post Except What Was In The title? Isn't That Awkward And Almost Difficult?

No, I liked it the other way...but it's a little more difficult
I just found it odd, that's all.

There are a number of ways to get a black finish on stainless, ranging for one of the polymer colored coatings, to black chroming, to special processes that give the metal a flat black color.
Durability and price varies from process to process, and company to company. Here's some companies that offer stainless work: http://www.fordsguns.com/index1.htm http://www.apwcogan.com/Greetings.htm http://www.trippresearch.com/ http://www.techplate.com/firearms_pl.htm http://www.originalmetaloy.com/ There are other companies that offer the colored coatings. |

hot blue stainless steel
No offense to you all who say SS can't be blued, but I hot blued five SS bbls today, including a Win 70, Rem 700, Savage 110L and a couple of beautiful SS bbls from Serengeti Rifle Co. I regularly blue SS and Win 94 receivers from 2,700,000 to 5,000,000, and I'm sure there are other gunsmiths who do it also.
