Hello all,

Looking to pick your brains again. Just wnat and idea of which powder would be a good first choice for .223 and another one for .308 I've been doing some reading and was thinking of AA2230 for .223 and Varget for .308 Good?? Bad?? I know results vary from rifle to rilfe, but I'd like an idea of what works for others. Also which primers are preferred or work better with certain powders?

Thanks much,

Hello Steve, Most powders that work well in one will do well in the other. I've used Varget in the 223 but haven't tried it in the 308. It's great in the 223. Haven't tried 2230 but have heard it's good. Others that will work for both calibers are:
There are many others that I haven't tried.

I have used Varget in both calibers. It worked well. My .223 will consistently shoot .3" groups using 27 grains of Varget sitting under a 55 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip. Sub-MOA groups from my .308 as well. My recommendation--VARGET

Varget rules! It's a great powder, yielding high case capacity loads in .223 and yet still slow enough for .308 It meters well for me,too.

I've also got to vote for Varget for both 223 and 308, great stuff.
