hi everyone all the velocities i see are from 7.5 inch barrels; I was wondering if anyone has shot heavy colt loads from one of the shorter tube rugers and clocked them. I have a blackhawk with a 4 5/8 barrel and around a .005 cylinder. My current load is 25grs of ww296, win lp, and 255 keith bullet. thanx

24/H110/CCI-350 with a cast 262 grain Kieth SWC & a heavy crimp comes out of my 7 1/2" barreled Blackhawk at ~1350+ with a few individual shots hitting 1400 on occasion. Sorry, nothing on the shorter tubes. I've read in a couple places that H110 and W296 come from the same manufacturer, my own tests show that they give virtually identical velocities for identical loads over my old PACT chrono. Check out sixgunner.com for some good reading on this.

From a 5.5" test gun I get easy 1309fps with my 300g XTP-HP offering, and 1170fps using a 335g WLN.

Both these loads are 'mediums', and safe in all Rugers and Colt Anancondas.
Not for S&W.

'Heavy' loads for Ruger only. More power is available, but it gets closer to the edge....
