270 WSM handload

Just got a new 270 WSM, in Savage model 11. Am looking for any recipes for reloading this round that you have had good luck with. Have already tried a few and they are producing just over a 1 MOA out of a new rifle. Any ideas appreciated.

Hi T-Mac

I am working on loads for the 270 WSM. Mine is a Savage with a 24 inch barrel. Will let you know if I accidently develop a nail driver round.

okay backstrap, what works for my rifle will very well might work your rifle and then might not. The great joy of reloading is experimenting with a particular bullet, say a Nosler Partition 130grainer and taking a powder like RL19 which works wonderfully with alot of calibers and finding the "sweet spot". You of course find your COL and begin with them numbers and/or your mag well length as to long of bullet will not fit the mag-most manuals will give you a measurement of how much to back of the lands. Some .020" and with Barnes it is .050" off the lands.
No rifle is the same but I will recommend RL19 61.5rns@3056fps--65.5@3307fps per Nosler Manual fifth edition. I like Winchester primers --pretty consistent and groups well too. Do not exceed max load. good shootin.

Thanx

Thanks Grizz.

I got some info from a guy who said he was getting pretty good groups using Re 22 (w/ Barnes TS BT) and IMR 7828 (w/Hornady interlock SP).

Have you tried any of those powders?

Like you say... every gun is different, and of course, I am just trying to avoid buying too many different powders just to get going on this one gun.

Thanks in advance.

I just picked up a copy of the new Hodgdon 2006 annual reloading manual and it has lots of loads for the .270 wsm. My son just bought a BAR in 270wsm, nice rifle.
