I've been loading 45acp for a short while now and today I bought 40S&W dies and 155gr FN copper plated bullets from West Coast Bullets. My Lyman 47th Loading manual only shows 150gr jhp and so does Winchester. I'm using W231 and would like to know if 5.5gr would be a good safe target load. Also, would the overall length be 1.135. Thanks in advance for your advice. Rod Black

Looking in my speer's manual, 155 grain with 231, the range is 5.8-6.5.

Hope this helps

TZEAZAS, Thanks for your reply, the info does help. I'm kind of dissapointed with the Lyman manual. I doesn't even have a 45acp lrn in 230gr, and the fmj 230gr gives no data for W231, one of the most popular powders for the 45acp. In other calibers it seems to omit some of the most popular bullet weights also. Rod Black

Check out the latest data in the Winchester Reloading Manual; you can use it interactively or download it in .pdf format.

RBlack; I presume that you know that Lyman publishes a specific manual for Revolver and Pistol loads? It is in its' second edition, and has much more information than Lyman's general handloading manual.

These manuals are not available for interactive or download use on the internet.
