Availibility in San Antonio?

Have a good friend in the San Antonio, TX area who cannot find SWAT at Borders or B&N - which is quite funny - to me - because I can get at those chains in the PRK.

Any outlets in the greater San Antone a/o? Other than the PX at Brooke / Ft Sam?

In advance, much appreciated!

Erick

Usually at those locations, Erick, but the December will hit the stands soon and they may be sold out of November. We're in most 7/11s as well, so he might try there.

If the words "VALERO ULTRAMART" mean anything to him, they show as one of the independents. Otherwise 7-11. Great coverage at Books-a-Million.

HEB grocery stores carry SWAT (at least in the Austin area), but as Denny said, they are sold out until the next issue hits the stands.

From passing the gas stations, "Valero Ultramart" appears to be the new name for "Diamond Shamrock". IF that's the case, there will be many "Ultramarts" in the San Antonio area which sell S.W.A.T. Magazine.

I see it at the Barnes and Noble all the time. I think I have seen it at Borders and supermarkets also. The B and N, esp. the one across from North Star usually has a very good selection of mags (uh, the paper type).

Update - yesterday - I saw the latest issue well stocked with all the other gun rags - in B&N.

The PX at Ft. Sam Houston has it (at least when I moved from there in June)

That is the case (more or less). Valero Energy, which is a San Antonio based company, purchased Ultramar Diamond Shamrock back in May (well, they reached their agreement then) and last week/weekend they were busy repainting and renaming all the south Texas locations. I don’t believe you will find these names in south Texas, but Diamond Shamrock also had stores named Ultramar, Beacon, and Total.

Went to B and N yesterday, still there. Lots of gun magazines (paper type). Even some more esoteric ones, like the NRA Collectors mag - Man at Arms?, some sporting and air gun ones from the UK, Gun List, SGN, Gun World, a new one about Tactical Gear, Ruger mag, SW mag, Glock annuals, etc., etc.

I however bought a book on sushi and an issue of Saveur (cooking mag). The latter had a nice article on hunting grouse and it was full of descriptions of their shotguns.

In fact, when the B and N put in a Starbucks, it at first had a no CCW sign. When I told the B and N manager, he told me that it was definitely not their policy but Starbucks. Starbucks later took down the sign.

The B and N near work had a book signing for Chris Bird who did a CCW handbook.

Thus, I really have had no trouble with gun mags in San Antonio. They also have a good gun book section.

Wandered into Borders yesterday. Plenty of SWAT and their gun book section had a good number of how to carry and defend yourself CCW books. Not just ducky shooting books.

So I wonder how this thread got started. I see SWAT all over the place in the book stores?

December issue was neat (thanks, Rich). I showed my wife Yeager's picture and said I know that guy as I met him in Pennsylvania. Still had to take out the garbage, though.

Glenn & all-
Again, thank you.

My friend has now found sources, based on the directions and assistance. I don't know what the difficulty was on that end - hey, the only place in these parts that carries SWAT is the PX at Baghdad Int'l - but I'm not there so I couldn't tell you.

Again, thanks for the help.

Erick
