Greetings All,
I've got a question for the group. I'll be hunting Africa this summer and carrying a Scout in 308 for plains game. I've been told to bring some "solids" for the gun just in case. A web search has revealed plenty of 30 cal solids but in either 165 gr or 220 gr. Do any of you know anyone who makes a 180 gr solid? TIA. Check 6, Erick |

Try A square. 502 255 7456. If they have a web site, I don't know of it. They did list a 180 grain "monolithic solid" as of 1996. Enjoy your hunt.

Just in case of what?? If you are talking about loading up some solids for something nasty that you didn't expect, use the heaviest bullet you can.
Secondly, be aware that the homogeneous projectiles, like the A Frame Monolithic Solid require reduced loads, due to their relative inelasticity compared with a lead cored bullet. Thirdly, develop loads using the temperature range in which you will be shooting them. A cool weather max load may well be over max pressure in hot weather. Fourthly, conventional wisdom holds that the prudent hunter uses only factory ammo when facing dangerous game. Good hunting, Walt |
