New Era Shotgun - Damascuss barrel
I inherited this New Era Nitro, 12 guage, Hamerless, model 4012 with the serial number 16812, a shotgun with a Damacuss barrel and would like information on the Manufacturer, value and any other info can anyone help.

NEW ERA
Sold by Simmons Hardware Co St louis MO from 1875 to 1930. They sold shotguns under trade names owned by them. Nitro Marvel, Western Arms Co, Kleen Killer Pigeon Gun and others. Taken from SXS's of the World by Charles Carder WARNING DO NOT FIRE THIS SHOTGUN THE DAMASCUS BBLS WILL NOT HOLD. HJN |

That one is a bit odd if it actually has Damascus barrels, since most shotguns from that era marked "nitro" had solid steel barrels. Nonetheless, I strongly recommend not firing it, even with black powder loads. It is old enough for retirement to the wall.
