Friend needs help identifying his rifle

A good friend of mine at work, just got a rifle free. I'll do my best to describe it here.

It is a Winchester .22 single shot. Apparently it is old and takes down. The thing looks a lot like my dad's Stephen's falling block .22.

It shoots .22 shorts and longs.

Octagon barrel, pretty old and rusty but shoots well. If I had to guess it's manufacture is early 1900's.

No serial numbers or other markings.

What could it be?

No markings or serial number? How does he know it is a Winchester? The only falling block Winchester I know of is the 1885 Single Shot - so called High Wall and Low Wall - which is a high grade rifle well marked and serialized. Pretty valuable if in working condition.

Sorry, it is a Remington. That is the marking on the barrel along with the caliber and place of manufacture (Illion NY)

Remington .22 falling block takedown octagon barrel.
Sounds like a No 4 Rolling Block made from 1890 to 1933.
Rusty = not real valuable; which is a shame, that was one of the nicer small single shot rifles of the day.
